Matteo Mauroni is a London-based independent filmmaker. Born in Rome, after working in the Italian film industry for a number of years, he relocated to London in 2016 where he currently lives and works in Documentary production.
His production credits include a number of high profile shows for various UK and international broadcasters, including the BBC, ITV, Sky Arts and Netflix.
Alongside his TV work, he writes, directs and produces his own film projects. 'Dreams' is his second short film and has been made in collaboration with Ravensbourne University London.
Dreams is not a love story, it is a story about love.
The film explores the complex relationship between expectations and reality, and how our idea of love impacts our quest for happiness. In an era dominated by social media, where character seems to have given way to appearance, and likes are the measure of our virtue, how do we fall in love?
The issue of identity runs through the film like a necessary common thread, and the film highlights our need to accept the flawed nature of others, and doing so by embracing our own flaws. Dreams is ultimately a journey to love and self-acceptance. Because expectations and reality often seem very far apart, but they are in fact two sides of the same coin, with life falling exactly in the middle.
The film was written, directed and produced by Matteo Mauroni, who self-funded the entire project, and it was filmed in London in 2017.
Just a few days after its completion, Dreams was included in the Official Selection of the London City Film Awards, and became part of the Lift-Off Global Network, an organisation encompassing worldwide live screening events and a seasonal awards ceremony.
