Ashwin Gokhale is a debutant filmmaker. As a resident of the older and more conservative part of his hometown, his outlook towards change and re-development differed when he shifted to another town for college. He addresses this "change" and "development", taking instances from his childhood and weaving them into a story for all audiences.
When we signed up for this thesis project for college, an overarching theme of ‘Hometown’ was given to us. A short lm of any genre was expected from us. In the project, we were encouraged to interpret our experiences and concept of ‘Hometown’. Hometown carried a variety of meanings for each of us, and not just the physical space that is a ‘Hometown’, but for some, emotional comfort, or the absence of it, is what de ned ‘Hometown’. My hometown of seventeen years, Pune, was my entry point into the theme. My family, my house, my
city and its people dominated my mind for the longest time. Looking back at my time in the old house, while watching its neighbourhood ‘re-develop’, I started to answer the overarching question of the apparent ‘development’ and the loss of connection with the past. e old building, my house, became my hometown, and my hometown had an intruder.
