Ariel Monticure is a Ft. Worth native. She began her training at age 5 with former North Pacific Ballet soloist, Victoria Fedine. Since then she has studied at School of Texas Ballet Theatre, Dallas Metropolitan Ballet, Milwaukee School of Ballet, The School of American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Center of Ft. Worth, and STEPS on Broadway. Monticure has performed works in the fields of musical theatre with Casa Mañana’s Bass Hall Productions, ballet, and modern. She has been fortunate to be cast in an original work by former New York City Ballet soloist, Mel Tomlinson. For the 100th anniversary of the Rite of Spring, Monticure was given the opportunity to perform Dutch choreographer Joost Vrouenraets’s premiere. The performance was awarded “Best Dance Performance in Dallas” in 2013. Monticure graduated in 2015 from Southern Methodist University with a B.F.A in Dance Performance. She choreographed, directed, and performed in a dance film staged in New York City. Currently she is a full-time faculty member at Ballet Center of Ft. Worth, an arts writer for Theater Jones, and a founding member and co-creator of Avoir Motion Dance Project.
Avoir Motion Dance Project is dedicated to preserving the versatility of classical dance forms while challenging their traditional inaccessibility. We strive to remove "high art" from its conventional caste system and to create works that celebrate the human juxtaposition of rural and urban, gritty and sophisticated, nature and industry. We accept any emotion, reaction, or thought our art provokes as valid; acknowledging that each audience member is also shaped by a unique history and perspective. We believe that dance is not simply an event to see -- “voir” -- but an experience to have -- “avoir”.
