Since he first began his career as an actor in Portugal over 18 years ago, Diogo Morgado found himself viewing every set he worked on as his own version of film school, using every break between takes as an opportunity to learn from the crew about all of the technical aspects involved in production behind the camera. An avid photographer with a love for storytelling, directing became of particular interest for Diogo. And after completing a script for the short film "Break," Diogo knew he was ready to make the transition to director. In addition to writing and directing "Break" in 2013, Diogo also served as one of the executive producers as well as co-editor of the Portuguese (subtitled) film. Diogo followed up "Break" with two short films - "Excuse" and "Signal" -- two English films that Diogo wrote, directed, and edited. Both "Excuse" and "Signal" continue to receive recognition and awards from various film festivals around the world.
Now an established, successful actor in both the United States and his native Portugal, Morgado is quickly adding to his directing resume as well. The sci-fi thriller "Solum" is Diogo Morgado's second feature film, and it also serves as his English feature film directorial debut. "Malapata," a comedy that was the first feature film Morgado directed and co-wrote, was released in theaters in Portugal in 2017.
Through his production company SLX Productions, Morgado is currently in development on several projects -- from feature films, to short films, to web series. "Solum" is slated for release in early 2019.
"What I love about short films is that they are like a snack... they don't have to leave you fully satisfied... they don't have to fill in all the blanks for you.... the story can become whatever the audience feels it should be, to them." -- Diogo Morgado
