Director Biography - Daniel Espeut

Born and raised in Georgia, Daniel Espeut has been producing unique cinematic productions for many years. He discovered his passion for directing motion pictures while he was attending Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia. By his senior year, he received six AECT International Student Media Festival awards and a media internship position with ZDF, one of Europe’s largest broadcast television networks located in Mainz, Germany. In 2009, he became a Cum Laude graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television. Shortly after his college graduation, he began to self-fund his first feature film, GreasePaint. The film had it’s world premiere at the 2013 1st Annual Gwinnett Center International Film Festival and received the “Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film”. In 2014, Mr. Espeut’s filmmaking career soared when GreasePaint was named an “Official Selection” of the 16th Annual Sarasota Film Festival and the 15th Annual Bare Bones International Film & Music Festival. It was at Bare Bones where Mr. Espeut became the first documentary filmmaker in the history of the festival to win one of their most prestigious awards, Indie Auteur of the Year. The following year, Mr. Espeut produced and directed another documentary short, Raised in the South of Normal. The short went on to win the 12th Annual Rome International Film Festival "Audience Choice Award for Best Short Film”, 17th Annual Bare Bones International Independent Film & Music Festival Award for "Best Documentary Short" and the 3rd Annual Milledgeville Film Festival Award for "Best Georgia Film”. Director Statement

As I continue my filmmaking journey, I find more and more that my calling is to bring the arts and artists of Georgia into the spotlight through all forms of media. E.M. Watson’s "EMerge" is an opportunity to dive into the mind of an artist and visual portray some of the deepest and darkest demons in a way that inspires others. Music and Film are great forms of storytelling. Merging the two creates wonderful works of art, especially when exploring the darkest parts of our minds. I always try to explore new techniques with each project and observe the audiences’ reactions. With our present visual-centric culture, the mainstream seems to promote negativity. Myself and Espeute Productions want to promote positivity and produce uplifting stories, even while using dark motifs.
