Director Statement

Film can answer our deepest questions, about the world and about ourselves.

'Anybody with artistic ambitions is always trying to reconnect with the way they saw things as a child.' - Tim Burton

In some ways I have answered my childhood questions many times over, and in other ways I am still trying to. This is where Raven Pictures begins. This is a project we love and although it's going to be hard work we know that if you are working on something you love, then it isn’t very hard at all.

As Stanley Kubrick said when he was awarded the D. W. Griffith Lifetime Achievement Award in 1977,

‘Anyone who has ever been privileged to direct a film also knows that, although it can be like trying to write 'War and Peace' in a bumper car in an amusement park, when you finally get it right, there are not many joys in life that can equal the feeling.’

Sincerely and with passion,
A. J. Hackett
