A DAY IN GALIFF STREET

This film is a story about a street which is unique in its own way. While most of the street remains lifeless and still, this street comes alive once, every week. Every Sunday morning, the chirping of birds and the growling of pup’s reverbs around the space of a pet market at Galiff street. From ages, people are coming here either as a pet lover or as a pet seller. A one-stop shop for dogs, birds, and fishes. Located in the northern area of Kolkata, this street becomes an ideal place even for the bystanders. They come here to boost up their sales as the vast customers need to be reenergized with some foods and beverage. But despite the aspects it offers, one can’t deny the dark side as none of the commerce here has a validation but above all it is a place where lives have a price tag. A place where happiness and dreams can be bought and sold.

In this documentary film the student of BFA in Digital Filmmaking & VFX (1st year, Batch: 2016-2020) tried to showcase the illegal business of pets at the heart of Kolkata, India.
