Directors Statement of “Ajanam”
This has been a 2 yearlong dream for us. The idea came to us when someone told us about a similar incident. But we had to change things in the story to make it feel more like a film, whilst retaining the hard hitting reality of the situation, when it comes to women, infanticide and societal perspective towards marriage and women’s place in society. We wanted this film to be our first because it stands for something. And every time we narrated the story people reacted strongly to it. Even the team rallied behind the concept because they really felt for the characters and their plight. We were lucky enough to have a team that was willing to work within a budget without compromising the least. We really hope that people not only like film but also start a conversation that is sadly still vital in our time.
