The Ocean in Our Backyard

In this short film we enjoy the beauty of the ocean with film photography set to music. The film explores the concept that we had can find amazing treasures in our immediate surroundings. The film was made on the premise that we can appreciate ocean life that is accessible to those who take a moment to contemplate our natural environment. Our mission is to highlight the wonders we can enjoy that are right before us. The film is not a pure documentary but a visual commentary about the beauty of our surroundings.

Lynn Langtry & Laurie Lanktree

Biography: Laurie Lanktree: Co-Producer& Co-Director, photographer & videographer of The Ocean on Our Backyard.

Laurie is a singer, a photographer and videographer, and a horse trainer, as well as a Registered Nurse.

Laurie is very grateful and feels privileged to have studied voice with Taylore T. Fox (aka Trudy Buckler Blake) & Tellie Kahara.
Laurie participated in planning and singing in fundraiser concerts with Amethyst Concert Group in 2003.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing: RN BScN; ER & Critical Care specializations.

Some of Laurie’s Achievements:
Photography
Laurie has been a photographer for weddings and promotional stills for singers. She also enjoys underwater photography and videography. She has also produced a teaching film used for nursing students at Lakehead University covering an important medical condition for microbiology, entitled “Necrotizing Fasciitis.”
Public Music Performance
1986-1990 Owner, operator and horse trainer: Rocky Ranch Riding Stables.
1989 CKPR TV produced a filmed interview about Laurie’s achievements with Rocky Ranch
1988 Certificate as Farrier from the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School.
1998-1999 Laurie worked as an extra in several Hollywood North movies in Vancouver BC.
2002-2003 Amethyst Concert Group: Soprano, costume designer, hair & makeup & program assistant.
2000-2002 Performed concerts with Lakehead University New Music Ensemble as well as the International Folk Music Ensemble.

Biography: Lynn Langtry: Co-Producer& Co-Director, Music composer and singer & instrumentalist for the film The Ocean in Our Backyard

Lynn is a songwriter singer, a novelist, as well as a visual artist.

Lynn is very grateful and feels privileged to have studied voice with Taylore T. Fox (aka Trudy Bluckler Blake) & Tellie Kahara.

As a music teacher, Lynn has had the privilege and delight teaching music to students in Gillam with the Frontier School District of Manitoba, where she developed & implemented a fiddle program in the community as part of a district-wide program. Lynn moved to British Columbia and found it a joy to teach music both at primary and secondary school levels. Additionally, Lynn developed a unique traveling fiddle program for School District 91` Nechako Lakes. Lynn organized and directed several student music concerts an also conducted the Secondary School Concert Band. Lynn also coached vocal students for the productions of musicals at the school.

Lynn also was the producer/ director and soprano in a classical concert tour and cultural exchange project: Amethyst Concert Group 2003 in Dominican Republic. Along with many events for music students, the group performed in several high profile concerts. Lynn Langtry had the honour to perform for Presidente Hipolito Mejia and First Lady Rosa Gomez de Mejia.

Lynn also studied music composition in University.

Lynn has 21 Opus, to date, in the National Library of Canada . She is working on a new album that will be added to her works.

2003 Lynn was the focus of a CKPR TV interview about the Amethyst Concert Group Project
2002-2003 CONCERT TOUR: Amethyst Concert Group: Founder, Director, Soprano: Dominican Rep. Classical Concert Tour and Cultural Exchange Project, February, 2003.
With the support of representatives from the Dominican Republic: Don Fransisco Hernandez, conductor & violinist; The Minister of culture of the city of La Vega, Don Florencio de Silia.
Touring Members: Lynn Langtry, producer, director, & soprano; Silvia Griffiths, soprano; Dale Black, Baritone ; Joel Black, piano; Susan Kelly, piano ; Kate Sidler, saxophone; Crystal Boggs, percussion; John Kelly, technical support.
Other members who performed at concert fundraisers: Laurie Lanktree, soprano; Paul Smith, classical guitar; Gerylyn Anderson, stage manager; Thunder Bay African Drumming Group.
Performed in Dominican Rep. during the tour, for President Hipolito Mejia & the First Lady, Rosa Gomez de Mejia at a special event in honour of the First lady.
Directed and performed in two concerts in honor of Mayor Fausto Ruiz & Governor Marino Abreu, La Vega, Dominican Republic.
Met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Culture of the Dominican Rep. by special invitation in Santo Domingo.
Conducted music education workshops: choral & mixed instrumental with Students
in La Vega D.R.

2001-2002 Performed two solo classical concerts at Lakehead University.
Participated in several workshops and master classes for classical vocalists.

We have thoroughly enjoyed the process of making this film with the excitement of discovering a new viewpoint of our natural surroundings. Our collaboration was essential for finding the perspective that presents our message of the film. We truly hope it is enjoyed and reaches the hearts of others to appreciate the little things we can see around us.
