Director Statement

“Second Hand Lovers” is the second video in a series of three videos for my album, “Bedroom Crimes”. On the album each song depicts a different emotional crime which takes place in a bedroom. As a director I set out to find a visual language to compliment the musical language of the album. In Second Hand Lovers I wanted to examine the difficulty we have in opening up to new emotional experiences when past memories haunt us. I decided to bring the situation to the extreme - what if a man surrounded himself only with the prefect memories of his past lovers – how would that compete with the fragility of real emotion?? Visually I wanted to create a symbiosis between the man and his imaginary lovers in every movement. Then I wanted to examine how that might fall apart when conflicted with the possibility of a real experience, and finally I wanted to show it taking over again, finding ways to resurface.
