“Did You Really Say No” is the first video in a series of 3 videos for my album, “Bedroom Crimes.” On the album each song depicts a different emotional crime, which takes place in a bedroom. As a director I set out to find a visual language to compliment the musical language of the album. In this video - BEDROOM CRIME #1 - I wanted to show a relationship that has reached a big void, where any attempt to communicate gets distorted and fades into silence. I wanted to show how emotion fails to spring out and instead dies in silence. Since I could not use dialog, the challenge was to find a striking visual image for silence. I started imagining the couple living in a space much bigger than normal size, where they would be lost like they are lost in their relationship. I’ve collected a group of dancers to portray the fears, half-truths,disappointments and secrets of the couple. I wanted them to exist inside the house, to always be there to manipulate the space between the two. I wanted to turn silence into an active battleground.
