Director Biography - Kjersti Helen Rasmussen

After 3 years at the Danish Film school, I went on to work as a screenwriter and script coach. I have written features and shorts for several directors. I have always been a sci-fi girl and love genre film, especsially dystopia. In 2015 I made my first no budget short film and won 2.prize in the Bergen Minute film competition. This was great fun and triggered my interest in becoming a director. VOYAGER will be my "short film with a budget" debut, and I have several short and long films in development.

The short film VOYAGER is developed with a deep fascination about our existence, our biology and our place in the endless universe. It questions whether we are alone, and is an attempt to trigger our curiosity and thoughts about who we are in the big context. In the universe. Our planet is undergoing major climatic changes and we do not know how long we will survive here. We are free, but also totally dependent on earth to survive. We have started to look at other possible planets we can colonize in the future, but what if others out there look at our planet in the same way? Our survival instinct is strong, but we are probably not the only species feeling this way.

The global seed vault is built by the Norwegian government and placed on the arctic island of Svalbard. It offers constant freezing temperatures inside the mountain, and are safe from terror and natural catastrophes. The vault houses seed samples from every country in the world, and is to date the largest gene bank in the world and the only project involving every country in the world. The Norwegian government does not own the seeds, but are responsible for the building. The seeds are meant as an insurance for the future generations food supply, just in case something happens. That is why they call it the Doomsday Vault.
