Experiencing Interruptions?

speak UP

The society divides into „hearing“ and „deaf“ – hard of hearing are somewhere in between. Whether  mild or profound hearing loss: at first glance this kind of impairment is invisible. It most often becomes noticeable, when one does not understand or misunderstands.

The film aims to make visible to a normally hearing audience what is daily life for the hard of hearing. It gives room for the still moments as well as it points at the loud overflowing during a never silent  everyday life – a sensitization of listening in the first place.

Director Statement

How very difficult it was to make a film about hearing difficulty whilst observing the decline in my own ability to hear and learning to accept it. This became my own very personal challenge and I hope the film benefitted from my ability to walk in the shoes of my protagonists.

If I have given you, the members of the viewing public, whatever your hearing status, an insight into our world, it will all have been worth it. For me and for everyone who took part in or worked on this film. To them, I am greatly indebted.
