Ho-ma-ge

Synopsis:

Definition of Homage ‘is a show or demonstration of dedication to someone, or something. Sometimes by simple declaration but often by some more oblique...’

“Home is the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered of relating to, or connected with one’s home, the relation thus established”.

Three characters in an empty apartment, each of them take an empty room to navigate the depths of their playing before conveying in the main living room space as the point of interactivity and play together. Each of the characters has a unique obliqueness to their memories: as flat mate, lover, friends, chance meeting, what was once, friendship?
What inspire their dance dialogue and play is each of them individually their characters emerges. This is what we see! What do you see? What do they see? What do they think you see? What are they thinking we are seeing?

Director Biography - Steven Fajana, Steven Fajana

works in the field of moving visual image: Choreography and dance for the camera, videography and Visual installation/screening.
I studied for my Masters in Design and Media Arts at the University of Westminster. I live in London and have been making my video art since 2003.

My work explores the aesthetics of dance and the narrative in dance for the camera, expressing the visual language of the body in movement/dance and interwoven with this interdisciplinary activity: performance, visual moving image, theatre and digital media blended.

Director Statement

I am passionate about dance and moving image film/video as an artist/maker. My interest is to experiment with the moving body as it is captured through the framed vision of the camera and continued exploration, the relationship and collaboration between movement, space, captured moving image, visual art and screening/ exhibition.

I was a performer/dancer and choreographed for independent projects on stage and on film/video and directed and produced dance for the camera independent pieces, screened at international and national film festivals: (Monaco Grimaldi, Berlinale, Talent Campus, American dance festival, Montage Video dance festival South Africa, Mandal Norway Emotion, Dance on screen, London, Il Coreografo Elettronico, Napoli etc.

Artists such as Isaac Julien, Derek Jarman, Trisha brown, Lloyd Newson, and so many others are great advocates and influencial creative directors and makers as an influence for my work.
