This City

You see this man in power,
Who runs them with his guns,
He says he's got to tell you,
That you're the only one.
So their darlin' went a-gunnin',
She gunned them down all day,
You promised that they're something,
You promised it today.

But the eyes just stood there widening,
You said that change was good,
This city saw them crumbling,
This City saw the blood.

You see this man in power,
Who's lived here since he's born,
He's asking from his tower,
He's asking for the dawn.
So their darlin' who was born here,
She said this land was hers.
You promised that they're something,
You promised that you cared.

But the eyes just stood there widening,
You said that change was good,
This city saw them crumbling,
This City saw understood.

You see this man in power,
Who runs them with his mouth,
He's askin' for their lovers,
He's askin' form them now.
But their darlin' went a-missin',
As the youth then lost their minds,
You told them that they're something,
You told them it's their time.

But the eyes just stood there widening,
You said that change was good,
This city saw them crumbling,
This City's oh, so, good.

Artist Biography

A lover of music from the 60’s, Jack began writing songs and playing guitar when he first heard Bob Dylan's 'Times They are a Changin' and on a shoe string budget he taught himself how to play guitar, sing and write songs that have been played in the United Kingdom, America and Canada.

A new artist who has been heavily supported by BBC Introducing with seven songs played on their show. Originally recording songs for free on his phone he managed to get numerous airplays before working with a producer to create the new album. He has been described as a wonderful story-teller, authentic and is often complimented on his rustic and old fashioned sound.

The inspiration for Jack’s live acoustic album came from trying to find direction in life after losing track due to grief and being lost. His love for music has helped him find a path and the album is the delicate story of a young guy trying to find sense of the world he has grown up in.

The artist grew up just north of London before moving to Leeds. Jack says that she has been greatly influenced by his favourite artists including an obsession with Bob Dylan as well as influences such as Donovan, The Kinks, Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, Phil Ochs just to name a few. Jack Kelly is an exciting, new artist to come out of the Leeds’ music scene.
