Lost On N969

N969 — An overnight bus route operates between Tin Shui Wai and Causeway Bay. This is the longest bus route in HK in terms of travel time since it is covering extra routes after midnight.

Mark usually takes N969 after work if he misses the last bus of 969. Tonight, he met someone for the first time because he missed the bus and taking this “substitute” again.

This was Hillie who also missed the last 969 and desperately approached Mark for help. Coincidentally, they were heading to the same destination. Unlike Mark, Hillie was a first-timer taking this route.

They both lighted up a cigarette while waiting for the bus. Within the moment, they both felt a sense of familiarity from each other, yet they could tell distance did still exist between them. Hence, they started a journey in the search for the source of familiarity by paying attention to each other.

It reminded Hillie of someone familiar when Mark took out his handmade cigarette box; Mark also felt a sense of familiarity when Hillie sprayed perfume after smoking to cover the smell. This mutual feeling created a weird atmosphere between them. They both wanted to know more about each other yet no one dared to take a move.

We miss things in life like missing the last bus of 969. However, there must be another substitute, like N969, would appear. Mark and Hillie, seeing each other as projection of someone in the past, are also substitutes in life. While the memory lingers, should they spend the remaining journey together

Nowadays, one can easily find substitutes for their loved ones. How would the relationship between Mark and Hillie evolve in time?

"It's always seems impossible until it's done."-Nelson Mandela
This is the most important quote in my life. In the movie world, everything seems impossible to make until you filmed it, edited it, created it. I'm not a student of filming department. I have never been taught about how to film. All I can do is to learn by myself. By reading books, watching tutorials, being one of the crew in a movie etc.

"Lost on N969" is a story I imagined when I was on the bus. Those scenes just appeared in my mind. I have no idea where and why it came out. All I need to worry about is how to make it become a film. "Missing someone" have different meanings for different kind of people. Lost them? think about them? or both? We all have an experience about losing something. Love, things, people etc. What would you do if there's a chance to let you chase it back? Will you miss it again or get it back? The life is yours. And the choice is yours.
