THE FLESH BUSINESS is an award-winning feature length documentary that follows the live of three ladies who find themselves on the streets of Mombasa engaging on commercial sex work despite their young ages. We get to see their day to day lives, their relation with the family members, some whom introduced them to this dark trade, their ambitions and aspirations and also we uncover other players that are actively involved in this under world business.
The underworld of commercial sex work is a multi-faceted and well-oiled industry that has other under lying player that drive this industry from brothel owners to pimps to even the local and national government agencies that decide to turn a blind eye or even aide the industry in one way or another.
We follow the lives of Tasha Akinyi, Beatrice Wamboi and Susan Atieno as they take us through their day to day lives when they are not in the streets at night. Beatrice has a 2 year old daughter that she has to take care of despite her being only 17 years of age. Susan has a mother that is into Alcoholism and drugs and she expects Susan to go to the streets and come back home with money to take care of her addictions. Tasha has to deal with the ghosts of her past that saw her father sexually exploit her, an act that made Tasha lack value on herself thus decided to exchange her body for money since her dad her defiled her anyway.
We also get to see Simon, who is a local adult video producer and brothel owner, what made him to choose to do this kind of work and what are his thoughts and fears, does he think commercial sex work should be legalized and they are charged a tax to conduct business?

I'm Denis Maina Wanjohi, an alumnus of the Kenya 2014 Mofilm Academy of African Filmmakers and the 2015 Maisha film lab.
My film-making journey started in 2010 when I was offered an opportunity to serve tea in a pilot production and later offered an opportunity to work as a gaffer on the film KOSA NA KOSA by the same production company.
I have worked my way in various film departments as a gaffer, boom swinger, lighting and finally writing where I found my fulfillment on set. I have been involved in scripting of four television programs namely, ALAMSI and SUMU both aired on K24 and SAIDA on Citizen TV, and NURU that is on ZUKU TV. I have also being involved in production of several documentaries.

My motivation for doing the above documentary is to highlight the plight faced by commercial sex workers. It is my desire that a meaningful conversation will arise centered around this issue.
