Antananarivo

While the Madagascar's capital Antananarivo is in the turmoil of a political crisis, filmmaker Hamy Ratovo fights against the censorship of his film in the margins of the demonstrations. Mixing real facts and fiction, Antananarivo tiako ianao revisits the political events of 7 February 2009, which lead the presidential guard to open fire on protesters.

Director Biography - Haminiaina Ratovoarivony

Haminiaina Ratovoarivony is a writer-director and actor born in 1977 in Madagascar. He graduated in sociology in his home country before studying cinema in France. He currently lives between Madagascar and Chicago.

He is part of the new generation of Malagasy filmmakers who are fighting for the revival of cinema in Madagascar. His first documentary, Madame le Pasteur (2005), was co-produced by France Télévisions and his self-produced feature film debut, Malagasy Mankany A.K.A Legends of Madagascar (2012), received several prizes at international film festivals.
