Sacred love

Father Innocent, a 40 year Cistercian monk, observes an austere life and is ceramist and singer of the abbey where he lives. The transfer of the parish priest compels him to new commitments that deter him from his rarefied solitude, to his disappointment. He comes face to face with the complexity of the life of the community and will become increasingly aware of his inadequacy.
This will lead him to a radical redefinition of his identity as a man and a man of faith, while still remaining firmly within it.

Director Biography - Marco Zarrelli

Born in Erba (Como) in 1974. Following his classical education, he graduated in Arts and Philosophy at "La Sapienza" University, Rome, with a dissertation focusing on History of Cinema (on Luis Buñuel), described by his supervisor (Professor Giovanni Spagnoletti) as "worthy of publication".
Nevertheless, he was not interested in theoretical analysis and preferred engaging with the cinematographic language through practical works, a sign of a personal expressive research that made as its first worthy product the short film "In Hora Ultima" (with Stefano Dionisi and Riccardo Garrone), produced thanks to a sponsorship by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture. The film was included in a preselection list at the 2007 "David di Donatello" award and received the cultural award "Sandro Bevilacqua" in Torri del Benàco (Verona).
In 2009, he was commissioned the biographical documentary "Una vita per la danza" (A life for dancing) on Odoardo M. Bordoni (among many positions, a former artistic director of the Opera House in Ekaterinburg).
He held a position as assistant director in the feature film "Il silenzio intorno" (Surrounding silence) by D. Fiori (2004).
On occasion, he has published writings on history of cinema and Renaissance music. Notwithstanding having chosen cinematographic language as his medium for artistic expression, he has never abandoned his dedication to other forms of art, especially Renaissance sacred music. In this field, he carries out historical and contextual studies, especially on Orlando di Lasso, on whose biography and critical edition of his letters he has been working for many years, pressed to carry on by famed musicologists, such as Willem Elders and Stefano Lorenzetti.
