Born and brought up in Mumbai, Anurag was exposed to the world of Cinema at a very young age. He started off as a Child Actor in a Marathi feature film ‘Devaki’ in 2001, directed by Milind Ukey. It was from this juncture that his liking for the medium began to grow. He worked as an actor in films such as Heda Hoda (2003), Mission Champion (2007), Por Bazaar (2013) and Prime Time (2015) and in TV serials like De Dhamaal, Nivdunga, Vaadalvaat and Unit 9 to name a few. Currently he is working as an assistant director with a leading production house in Mumbai and has just finished working in a Marathi feature film which is in its post production stage.
He completed his graduation in Mass Media from K.C. College, Churchgate. While doing BMM, he started making short films and documentaries as a part of the curriculum. His interest in the medium kept on growing and there was a need to understand the craft better. So after completing his graduation, he joined the post-graduate film course in Xavier Institute of Communication. This 10 month course changed his perspective towards film-making. He was exposed to films from different countries which widened his view. He learnt the right techniques to apply various tools while making the films he made as a part of the course. He got to learn the systems used by professionals in all three stages of the process i.e. the Pre-production, Production and Post-Production. Along with the projects done in the course he also started writing his independent scripts. ’The Date’ was conceptualized and shot during this course.
The ideation of VACANCY happened during working as an assistant director.
The idea for this film came from my day to day experiences as Mumbaikar and the things that I have observed about this city. Mumbai being the theme of this competition, I have tried to showcase it in an indirect way through this film.
Through this film, I tried to address one of the most common problems faced by an average Mumbaikar in a satirical manner. It is a creative speculation of how that problem could be solved and will that solution be successful.
The execution of this film is based on certain experiments which we as film students always wanted to try out. So this project was definitely a great learning experience for me personally.
There is a Vacancy for a one of a kind seat but a lot of competition for it. Do you think you have what it takes to bag that seat?
