Director Biography - Sattha Saengthon

Sattha was born in 1987. He was raised in an artist family at his hometown, Nakhorn Ratchasima. His father is a sculptor artist and has a pottery business. Sattha was a school representative in many art contests since he was young until high school. He found out that he’s color blind just right before he had an entrance exam to university - which made him rejected from one of leading art school in Bangkok. The doctor even recommended him not to study in art. However, he has proved himself by his art works that his color blindness doesn’t affect his potential in art and cinema.
Sattha first addicted to reading literatures and began to watch independent films when he was 18. He got to know Kim Ki-duk from his father’s pile of VCDs and started learning symbolics in the films from him. Since then, finding the hidden truth in cinema is Sattha’s new challenge and eventually he became a movie mania-- that was the beginning of Sattha as a filmmaker - storyteller.
When he was 19, Sattha started his career path as a storyteller through his graphic novel which was adapted from his real story. He posted this piece of work online - building some novel fans, until the publisher saw a potential in him and published his first graphic novel named “ความฝัน วันมะรืน” (A Nightly Dream). Sattha gradually was known as illustrator, graphic designer; he designed a cover for many translated books from famous author such as Haruki Murakami.
Sattha graduated his Bachelor with his 2D Animation called The Father's Diary (2010) - which came from his true relationship between him and his father. After then, by military draft, Sattha unwillingly became a soldier with his color blindness for 1 year. Later on, he was desperate in telling the story again and wrote another graphic novel named “กําแพงความรัก” (Wall of Love) in 2011. Then he got a chance to directed some music videos and work in TV program for a while before continue studying Master degree in Video Art. He started making short films and still working as freelance director since then. His thesis and his latest short, “Between” (2013), is another message that he wants to convey to his father.
