A Thousand Days of Solitude
A THOUSAND DAYS OF SOLITUDE is a tense dramatic story about a prison correctional guard who witnesses a suicide in solitary confinement and experiences moral strife when the warden bullies him to confine yet another prisoner to ‘the hole’.
As a whole, this film encompasses shift in our perspective from old to new. Through it's unique story and it's method of using GREEN ENERGY (ie: solar & renewable energy) to make this film; it further emphasizes that old ways can change no matter how ingrained they are in the prison system or the film system. Overall this piece acts as an ambassador for change and encourages all of us to think outside the box.

Jeremiah Andrew Benskin was born in Montreal and grew up in Europe where he studied language, literature and philosophy in the French language for over a decade.
This foundation provided him a rich exposure to international art, literature and theater from a very young age; at which point his desire to explore the realms of cinema came to fruition. As a result, he remains a well-rounded open vessel and explores rich global concepts through films and mix media art.
Whether it’s through writing, immersive art or films, he strives to spark discussion through a creative medium. He divides his time doing freelance work as a screenwriter, creative director and mixed media artist; all while making time for his friends, pets and family.
My name is Jeremiah Andrew Benskin and I’m an emerging Canadian mix media artist who’s passionate about expressing my artistic vision through art and film.
With that said, this film in fact originated as an art installation whereby I created an isolation room for participants to experience (on a micro level) what solitary confinement feels like for thousands of prisoners across Canada.
The success of the installation made me want to explore this hot topic in more depth with “A THOUSAND DAYS OF SOLITUDE”; a short film about a prison correctional officer who witnesses a suicide in solitary confinement and experiences moral strife when the warden bullies him to confine yet another prisoner to ‘the hole’.
This film as a whole encompasses a shift in our perspective. And by that I mean, this film was in it’s entirety a GREEN PRODUCTION (ie: diesel fuel is normally used to fuel a production) to emphasize that old ways can change no matter how ingrained they are in a system. None of this production used fossil fuel, but green energy (ie: solar energy). It had a recycling and compost program and the food served was organic with gluten free options. All rare items to find on film sets across the board, however, it is indeed possible and this film is proof of the concept.
In closing, this film has merit in more ways than one and it would be a privilege to showcase this film to an audience in order to highlight to people how we can incite change through stories and how we make them.
Sincerely,
J. A. Benskin - Director
