Maria Alcaraz was born in Palm, Majorca. Along her life, Maria has always felt fascinated by the images and how the world is represented by the eyes of others. She has always felt attracted by the movies to explain stories. Her interest was cultivated during fer adolescence, and it developed when she decided to study art history, a career that she did not complete. Maria concentrated her practice as a writer with topics that included death, desire and renaissance. The images that Maria captures during her walks are only a part of the story.
Maria also attended to different visual media courses and specialized in direction and script writting.
María Alcaraz is responsible for the documentaries “My element”, “Women at the dawn”, for the shorts in 8mm “Wild cats”, coscriptwriter in the short “Fool fryings”, which was rewarded as best terror short in Suspiria Fest 2014 and production chief in “Lost property”, rewarded as best short of Naples Festival.
At present she is preparing the documentary “The Black Mountain Review” and “Alone in the sky”, produced by Llançat produccions.
The short films in which she has taken part have been selected in more than 60 festivals. In some place of her hard drive she should have a finished list of which festivals have selected her works but right now she does not find it.
Maria has worked as a scriptwriter, in script development and is the author of three released books. She has also worked in post production, as head of production, assistant of direction and script.
Maria lives and works in Majorca, surrounded by the sea, in the middle of the Mediterranean, the place where she was born.
"I intend to communicate the unusual sensation of new senses."
I needed to satisfy my concerns as a writer and, likewise, to apply my knowledge to materialize them in an audiovisual piece.
There is an exhibitionist point in writing and it is necessary to be emotionally involved in this to reach the viewer.
Of course, there are endless conceptions of art and its expressions but, personally, I understand cinema as an instrument to thrill. I have intended to tell something, to reflect on something.
As a reference I have used non-narrative cinema, which we can call the "poetic" forms of cinema. And that can comparing to letters and postcards make up most of the output in personal space spaces.
