Skip it!
'Skip it!' portrays comedian / writer Rod Ben Zeev and his moving children's story 'Skip it!'. Rod lives in Amsterdam in the Netherlands but returns to his country of birth, Israel, regularly. The film touches on the ambivalent relationship he has towards his homeland and his newly found home. What is home, now, in the past and in the future for Rod?
In addition, the films focuses on Rod's motivations behind writing the Skip it! story. The film captures the personal desire that is hidden behind Rod's interest in the children's world as Rod has a strong wish to become a father one day. In a country in which having a family and performing the rituals that are part of family life are highly valued, as is the case in Israel, Rod's position as a single man without children exclude him from a part of the daily life of his society. This evokes a feeling of loneliness.
'Skip it!' tells a universal story about the search to belong. It is a cinematographic film with poetic images and specially created music by composer Dimitar Bodurov. Moreover it is a moving journey into human emotions and the land of Israel.
