Portrait
A film about a Victorian photographer taking a portrait of a mother and child, interrogating and elaborating on exposure time and the creator of the image. Society’s fascination with photography has endured since its birth to the modern day, with our consumptive photo-centric society, and the selfie. The medium’s ability to capture a moment that has already passed once the shutter has been depressed; presents an oxymoronic image: both indexical and uncanny in nature, being both an accurate representation of a subject, whilst not actually being the subject. Portrait explores ideas of representation, performance, portraiture, and the photograph itself.
