故事从一小人物出发，因为想得到在爱情里的自由和对爱人的救赎而犯罪，最后又在爱的感召下迷途知返。
由此展现了现代青年人情感的心路历程。故事依据真实事件基础而改编，用犯罪类型片的样式来作为影片影像风格类型的基调，是因为能更好地写出一个关乎当今社会底层人物为自由去努力，为情感去追求人性最本真的初心和诉求。因为真实事件发生在闽南地区，所以全片用闽南语作为演员台词的表达，一是为了演员更纯粹的去接近人物和表达人物，二是更好的让观众能更恰切的感受到真实事件的发生背景，对闽南地区所谓“门当户对”的婚姻观、爱情观能更加的感同身受。
短片《项链和鱼》创作历程也是在学习和摸索着更多关于本土各类风格迥异真实事件之于电影剧本创作的可能，以及这其中由本土真实事件改编到“类型电影”故事的摸索。
