Director Biography - Mario Guitar

MARIO GUITAR, film director, artist, musician, self taught. Born in Sept-Iles city, province of Quebec, Canada. Now living in Montreal.

At an early age, i was very much inspired by the Italian Neorealism. Out of many aspects that caught my attention, was the use of natural light by the great directors from this film movement.

After my art school studies, i began my career as a background artist in an animated film studio in Montreal in 1997. I have also worked for several years in the Montreal film industry as a model maker.

I began shooting films with puppets in 2007. I felt that shooting with puppets could be very interesting to create the illusion of grandeur that I was looking for. As a model maker, I could easily build sets for my puppets and create exactly what I wanted to achieve my film projects.

Director Statement

About MODERNWORLD : science-fiction/drama, original puppet animation, silent film by Mario Guitar: i shot the film mainly in 2007-2008 and completed an edit in 2010, but i was never satisfied with the film. It was never shown to the public since its creation.

I never forget about my projects and MODERNWORLD was still in the back of my mind. I always felt that the film had a certain value. Only in July 2016, i began to shoot new shots to replace the ones i did not like anymore and re-edit the whole project from A to Z.
