KC Taylor is a Puerto Rican Muslim who graduated from Rutgers University in Newark. She attained a Bachelor's in Journalism and International Affairs.
That same year she wrote a memoir were she collected memories and relationships that changed her life and her fight with bipolar disorder.
She has kept her fight with mental illness as transparent as possible becoming an avid advocate for sufferers of Bi-Polar disorder and mental health in general.
In 2017, Rutgers University and Express Newark gave her the opportunity to become a storyteller for the town she has called home for the past 12 years.
Her upcoming project A Mothers Cry was created based on her own experience after losing her son, Reggie.
Last year she met a group of women who share one common pain, they all lost their sons to street violence. Some of the women lost more than one but we're all in pain.
After reconsidering the magnitude of this project, she stepped to the opportunity to document some of these women's journeys throughout their grief and courage.
At the present time, KC is the owner of Newark Speaks 2U, making her one of the few if not the only Hispanic-Muslim woman to own a multimedia company in the area of Newark, New Jersey.
Newark Speaks 2U, we are storytellers.
KC Taylor, Director of A Mothers Cry.
I am interested in all forms of media. I believe that by blending different forms of art such as audio, visuals, storytelling you can create a more powerful piece than by using one art form alone. Each project I make is different, and
I've found that each person takes something different out them. Our current culture, and generation, is prone to listening to video media.
I want to create films that have something positive to say.
I am very excited that the film could reach many audiences and
share a story they may not have known before.
Before I made this last film, I saw other perspectives to the same story, but never from the mother's perspective or a particular community.
I feel passionate for filming and the community I live in. My
hope is to carry inspiration to others, serving as a power of example for all to follow.
