A divorced couple who decide to share equal space in their ex-matrimonial home soon realize that the ingenious idea is easier said than done. Bent on flexing their egos and scoring points, the two implore various hilarious tactics that soon inflames emotions and turns an already complicated situation into a roller coaster ride.

Director Biography - Shirley Frimpong Manso

SHIRLEY FRIMPONG MANSO

With a background in directing, writing, presenting, producing and event organization, Shirley Frimpong Manso brings a rich and varied experience to African cinema.

Shirley joined the media and entertainment industry in Ghana right after completing her advance level education at age nineteen.

During this time, Shirley presented programmes on Radio Gold, TV3, Metro TV and GTV respectively.

She also anchored live events such as Miss Ghana and various corporate and State events.

Shirley later graduated with first class honors in BFA at the National Film and Television Institute majoring in Film Directing. She formed Sparrow Productions in November 2003 while

still in school and hired a collective of talented and creative minds.

Shirley has written, produced and directed several widely acclaimed African movies including award winning films like « The Perfect Picture », « A Sting In a Tale », « Contract », Devil in the Detail », « Love or Something Like That », « Rebecca » and the first cinema series ever on the African continent « Adam’s Apples » and « Shampaign ».

Shirley’s newest feature film « Potato Potahto » is set to premiere in 2017.

Shirley’s aim is to tell progressive African stories and push boundaries using a touch of realism.

Director Statement

“Potato Potahto” tells the story of a divorced couple whose plans to share their matrimonial home descend into chaos and recrimination after the husband Tony brings in an attractive female house helper. When his ex-wife Lulu then hires an attractive young man to help her out, a roller coaster ride of laughter, jealousy and tears ensues.

“I have written a lot about marriage and new relationships but never about divorce. I wanted to put a hilarious spin on it, especially when the divorcees become victims of their own tricks.

The film has broken new ground with its Ghanian, Nigerian, British, French and Swedish co-production aimed at making African-made cinema more accessible for global markets. The film is a fantastic showcase of how international co-operation, talent and creativity can combine to give a wonderful and universally attractive film experience.

It features one of Africa’s leading actors OC Ukeje, Ghanian actress and TV star Joselyn Dumas, and award winning Nollywood veteran Joke Silva, award winning Blossom Chukwujekwu, Chris Attoh, Lala Akindoju, Nikki Samoas, Adjetey Anang and Victoria Micheals..

“I think we touch on an interesting aspect of love and relationships. And I think we made something that people will have genuine empathy for.

Potato Potahto is a co-production of WB Entertainment, 19 April Entertainment, Ascend International Studios, Virgo Sun Ltd, and Lufodo Productions. The film is distributed by Jambo Play. Nigeria-based distribution company FilmOne has first-look rights for Nigeria and UK.
