From the time Remy was a child, she loved movies--especially ones that were dark, crazy, loud, creepy, outrageous, weird, offensive, cult-status-attaining, experimental, and anything that pushed the boundaries of creativity and culture. Growing up with the films of Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick, and John Waters, she wanted to join in on the fun. She has recently graduated from Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University with a B.F.A. in Film Production/Directing, aiming to shake things up a bit in the suburbs of Orange County and hoping to continue to enjoy making the best kind of modern art there is.
I'm always very drawn to stories about people who have difficulties finding acceptance, whether it is by other people or even by themselves. I wrote and directed this film not only because I'm passionate about providing a voice for the LGBTQ community, but because it's an everyman's story about accepting the inevitable and coming to terms with the fact that there is always going to be someone better than you at something. It's an idea that's very near and dear to my heart, and I feel honored to be able to tell a relatable story about a beautiful and complex group of people that is not often enough seen and heard in the media. Although I love the show, drag queens are more than what you see on RuPaul's Drag Race. The cast was entirely LGBTQ and many of them were professional drag queens, and the crew was made up of every kind of person you could imagine, but we all had one thing in common--to tell this story in the most funny and heartfelt way we possibly could so as to honor the ones it was about.
UPDATE:
I am pleased to say that "When Wigs Fly" is currently being adapted into an animated series, co-written and created by myself and another excellent filmmaker that will help me continue this story even further. I will post further updates regarding production, as it is still in the writing stage at this point.
