Maya and Daniel are animators who just got married. They live in Boston, Massachusetts, where they teach animation to college students and work on projects. Maya Erdelyi is a Boston and LA-based award-winning animator and director. She creates intricate hand-made animations and collages inspired by imaginary worlds, memories and the unconscious. Daniel is a not-award winning animator. His films are primarily hand drawn abstract-narrative shorts. Maya said we should end with a joke, but we couldn’t think of one.
The film is inspired by early direct-on-film works in the spirit of Len Lye. “Hanemun’s" editing is loosely informed by the Haiku 5-7-5 structure. The film takes the viewer on a train journey from Tokyo into the mountains of Tsuruoka, to the cities of Osaka and Kyoto.
