The Bluebird Rescue
In December of 1987, a fishing vessel carrying a Captain and his 6 year old son, ran aground and began to sink off the coast of Sitka, Alaska. A Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched into the hurricane force winds. For the first time in US history a rescue swimmer was deployed into high seas to recover the man and his son. This is the story of the harrowing mission that changed the lives of everyone involved, and how each of them view the mission 30 years later.
