An Anecdote with Stefan Subotich
AN ANECDOTE is a web series which showcases the art and craft of comedic, verbal storytelling. Each episode will feature a performer and director blend that will combine the style and voice of a performer’s personal narrative with the director’s unique cinematic technique and vision. Think the Moth series but for the screen. Or a theatrical one man show with creative camera moves, clever editing, dramatic lighting, and rotating sets. No rules. No restrictions. And no requirements of length. Just a performer, his story, and a connection to his online audience.
The pilot episode features Stefan Subotich sharing the story of the day his first and only daughter was born. The anecdote is a humorous retelling of one of the most special moments of any person’s life, but told from the perspective of a comedian who never shies away from earnestness. Although the birth, and the lead up to the birth, were less than smooth, everything turns out happily ever after. But it’s Stefan’s incisive commentary and rich ability for verbal storytelling that brings the story to life and offers plenty of laughs in the process.

Allen’s passion for telling stories with a camera dates back to his childhood when he realized that the fantastic creatures in the old fantasy films he loved were created through stop motion animation by Ray Harryhausen. He brings the same sense of wonder and imagination he had then to all of his projects and is always looking for a way to push things in a new, exciting direction. He has edited the feature documentary The Sunday Sessions, which is set to be released in the coming year, and has worked with Light Street Studios for their first major project, a short film produced for the Oxford Club, serving as the Assistant Director and Editor. This is his first foray into directing branded entertainment, but his background includes commercial and industrial filmmaking.
