Our Story
Our Story is a very personal piece that conveys a strong message in the form of a spoken word poem. This is to outline common traits and essentially raise awareness for Aspergers Syndrome. The way that it's spoken and lyrically written makes it overall a very heart-warming animation, saying that nobody should be considered weird, or different. Although weird is good sometimes!
The animation is jam packed full of symbolism, ranging from personal thoughts on how Autism affects me to how others see the spectrum. Even since my very first thoughts on the project I wanted to create a highly visual piece, even titling my 3rd year Uni dissertation on enhanced art forms. This is because some of us, especially those with Aspergers Syndrome can struggle to understand something by just hearing audio. Radio stations bore me, and I sometimes can't even figure out the simplest meaning behind a good song. So with this spoken word poem, I used as many animation forms I knew well and knew would work together to indulge the audience in this heavily visualised animation which makes the poem a lot more clear and memorable.

Hey! I'm Jaime, a third and final year student at Birmingham City University. I've loved animation since the start of school when I found a very basic animation program on Nintendo DS, this and the enjoyment of online animations and films inspired me to take an art and design course through college and further studying Film and Animation whilst at University.
I love making animations, and have experimented using many techniques including rotoscope, kinetic typography and other 2D animation forms. I use the Adobe suite, and am comfortable with using Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects. On top of these, I also use Toon Boom Harmony for traditional hand drawn methods.
I aim to entertain audiences with my animations, although with certain animations, especially some of my longer pieces, I like to include strong symbolism. This sometimes can't be visually seen and I therefore like to write a paragraph or create a behind the scenes video separately to explain the meaning behind my work in further detail.
