Fat Punk
Old Francis-Paul wanders the alleyways and memories of a special summer 40 years before when he blasted size prejudice, low expectations and self-doubt out of his way and became the big fat punk rocker of his dreams. By winning on his own terms, he proved that the only size that matters is the size of your courage.
A triumph of solo-shot, punk-style D.I.Y. smartphone filmmaking, Fat Punk explores the space beyond life and death, where memories live on even though the world that contained them is long gone. With its themes of love, struggle, loss, coming of age and aging, Fat Punk is a beautiful tribute to the original era of punk, and the special past that lives on in each of us.

My core training in acting is from the Stella Adler Studio in New York. I love acting and filmmaking and Vancouver where I now live is a beautiful place to make films. I am interested in the dramas, delights, passions and heartbreaks that take place in everyday interactions (or lack thereof) between ordinary people. Most of my films have dealt with human-scale issues such as tough choices, love, dreams, hope and finding meaning and fun in life. I love an underdog story! My motto is don't let anything get in the way of telling a story that might uplift someone - film it with your smartphone if that's what you have, but get it done and share it with the world.
I made Fat Punk in a true punk/D.I.Y. fashion, like the early punk rockers who just picked up an instrument and bashed out a song simply because they had something to say. I used what was handy such as my smartphone, my actor and filmmaker friends, existing light, Vancouver's alleyway street art and myself. I solo-shot the film, while playing the POV of the main character as well as playing the main supporting character Leo. Turning weaknesses like no budget into strengths, I found alternate ways of getting the story across, including shooting the film from a first-person POV, and using local resources like the free sound booths at our library. I so believe in this story of love, loss, courage and memory that I was determined to get it done and out there, like a punk song!
