I Speak
When Joel Morrison emerged from a coma following a stroke nine years ago, he had completely lost the ability to speak. He had to learn to sound letters again from scratch. His moving and beautiful film interweaves dance and therapy to explore poetically his journey back to language.

Joel as a teenager was interested in becoming a writer before a major stroke at sixteen severely affected his use of language. While in rehab he turned to visual media, first photography and later film. He interned as an assistant editor on How to Change the World, which won best documentary editing at Sundance, before gaining a degree in Practical Film-making at the Met Film School. At Met he focussed on editing, as well as directing his own short films. I Speak, about his own struggles with language, was his graduation film.
I have been delighted by the positive feedback I have had so far on I Speak. It seems to touch people. I look forward to getting it out to a wider audience.
