Ieva Balode born in 1987, Riga, Latvia is an artist and film curator exploring practice of analog image making. She has graduated Latvian Academy of Art, as well as studied film and photography in Yrkeshögskolan Novia, Finland. In her artistic practice she is interested in human identity matters, which she explores through the language and philosophy of an image – both still and moving. Coming from a media and fine arts background, her works are met both in art galleries, as well as international film festivals such as Latvian Centre of Contemporary Art, Riga (2016), Бükü, Leipzig (2016), "Survival Kit" festival, Riga (2011), Museum of Photography, Riga (2013), Festival "Celebrating Transience", Kingston (2014), Festival "Zabroffka", Bialystok (2013), Festival "Fish", Rostock (2013), "Oslo Screen Festival", Oslo (2012), "New Screen – New Castle", Newcastle (2011), "Athens video art festival", Athens (2010) etc.
Ieva is also a founding member of Baltic Analog Lab - a filmmakers collective in Latvia, as well as director of Experimental film festival "Process" in Riga, Latvia.
I am interested in human consciousness and transcendence within it. In my artistic practice I mainly work with analogue images - both still and moving. I am particularly interested in experimental image making in the lab and using those images to express concepts I create and live throughout my own life.
