Visitors
‘Visitors’ invites us into the unassuming suburban house of Mrs Jeffreys, a solitary widow, long-abandoned by her adult children, on the morning she is visited by a pair of eager and enigmatic Mormons. Their intentions soon turn out to be anything but holy, but their sinister schemes are scuppered by an unforeseen intrusion. ‘Visitors’ is a one-shot dark comedy with a focus on visual intrigue and exploring the unexpected.

As a filmmaker, Silas has written and directed a number of short films. 'the sex lives of eels’ (2015) was produced in 100 hours as part of the international 'Film Racing' competition, for which it received honourable mention. Since then the film has been selected for screening at the 'Vaults Film Festival' in London, as well as being screened at the Oxford Picturehouse cinema. In 2016, Silas and a group of Oxford University students were commissioned by The England Arts Council to write and direct ‘Surfing’, a 3 minute film for the Channel 4's Random Acts platform. In the same year, Silas also directed two micro-films, ‘Fan’s Labyrinth’, which was screened at the 'Kino' and 'Vaults' festivals in London, and ‘III’, screened at the Oxford Picturehouse cinema.
‘Visitors’ is a dark comedy with a focus on visual intrigue, audience manipulation and exploring the unexpected. When penning ‘Visitors’ I wanted to keep the audience in a constant state of unease, implementing change in the direction of the narrative, just as the audience think they’ve predicted the outcome. The cinematography follows this trend of audience manipulation through the use of a single, continuous shot; creating a sense of claustrophobia, and controlling exactly what the audience see, as the house is explored by its visitors. As tension builds and assumptions are challenged, the boundaries between normal and abnormal, victim and perpetrator begin to unravel.
