Seeing Slavery
From director Erica Jordan, Seeing Slavery provides unprecedented access to intimate images and stories of survivors of slavery and those currently enslaved, unraveling the unseen worlds of human trafficking, forced labor, and prostitution with brutal candor.
We follow the eye of the camera through the prolific images of humanitarian photographer, Lisa Kristine while hearing the poignant voices of those enslaved and freed.
Kristine’s photographs bring into focus the suffering, beauty, compassion—and above all—the dignity of women, children, and men, both enslaved and free. The viewer witnesses the courage Kristine summons to enter danger zones around the world and shed light on the unseen issue of slavery, leading the way to end the violence of slavery and advance peace
The film leaves one with a haunting impression of the experiences endured by those living in slavery while relaying a message of hope that with greater awareness and effort slavery may one day be stopped. Ending slavery is a modern-day movement; it rises from those who have suffered themselves and now come forward to rescue the silenced.

Erica Jordan, an award-wining filmmaker, released Painted Nails, a feature documentary (co-produced/directed with Dianne Griffin) in 2017. Painted Nails enters the lively world of a Vietnamese nail salon and explores not only its unique opportunities for immigrant women but also flamboyant nail art, pampered clients, and the serious health risks that lurk beneath the brightly painted surface. Painted Nails documentary has screened at film festivals around the world, including Cinequest Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival and UNAFF Film Festival out of Stanford, CA. It is premiering on PBS stations 2017, as well as acquired for the permanent collections of libraries and universities around the United States. (for more info, please visit paintednailsmovie.com)
Jordan won best Best Emerging Filmmaker Award at Rivertown Film Festival for her feature film "Walls of Sand", about the friendship between two women, an undocumented Iranian and an agoraphobic American, and their search for freedom. "Walls of Sand" won Honorable Mention at Slamdance Film Festival and gained international attention as the first feature film selected to stream over the Internet.
Film Threat selected Erica’s second feature film, "In the Wake," as one of the best independent feature films of 2001 — “While anyone who saw ‘Walls of Sand’ could immediately recognize Ms. Jordan’s talent as a filmmaker, her new feature ‘In the Wake’ serves to confirm not only her skill and mastery of independent film production, but also herald her arrival as one of the major artists of the indie scene.”
Erica is currently editing the Spike and Mike’s Festival of Animation Documentary, an
assemblage of some of the foremost partners in their fields, with historical content and fascinating interviews by directors who had their student films screened first in front of large audiences, curated by Spike Decker and Mike Gribble.
Erica’s scope encompasses writing, producing, directing and editing documentary and narrative features that entertain, as they expand into a deeper view of the world.
