Hawaii Point
The footage was shot in 2016 in the Calais Jungle in France, the big refugee camp which hosted those refugees who wanted to cross the English Channel to reach the UK illegally.
The story which does not have a real development, is narrated by a colourful character, that claims to be the sovereign of the kingdom; he will show the place, tell that the inhabitants spend their time playing and throw the party. The landscape is the one of a refugee camp, but considering that the place is not specified, it could be any African village.
In the first part the narrator introduces himself as the sovereign of a magical kingdom, he wants to show the life there and the peculiarity of the inhabitants: their musical talent. Thus, he decides to throw a party and in the end, like a prophecy, he states that the party he was talking about will take place and all the people will come together.

Two students meet in Milan, looking for an economic apartment for rent and to live in. They will find it into the public housing of the first working-class neighborhood of Milan, in Solari street. Here they will produce the first documentary about this particular place: short stories of the first occupants in the 80’s focusing on the sense of community. Then they will find the same sense of community in a French refugee camp: The Jungle. In their first site inspection, lasting ten days, they will forge good relationships with the refugees and they will produce an artistic video installation by glitching some footage filmed there. The name of their independent production will be HUNTING AREA. Back to the camp, during a stay of about two months, they will produce a documentary mixing fiction and reality, creating a musical “non-place”: the HAWAII POINT, that will also be the title of their documentary. Interested into the problem of immigration and driven by the desire to document and create new visions of reality, they find their language mixing fiction and the realism of the documentary.
