Happiness is part of a Trilogy of Solitude that explores the nostalgia and the lonesomeness within ourselves. Stories where memories are enough to hold on to life hoping that they will eventually repeat. The characters hide their solitude with imaginary moments that bring back the joy they once had.
We tried to build Happiness like a bittersweet poem. As we introduce Olivia through the objects that surround her where the delicate porcelain and her heavy make up stands out, we discover a decadent princess dancing around in a palace build out of memories. The film portrays a woman who is hopeless and joyful at the same time, quirky and beautiful but far away from crazy. An elegant, delightful old lady that still inspires.
We are constantly exploring solitude and isolation and Happiness is a portray of solitude covered up in fantasy and warm colours. We often find ourselves talking about memories and death through magical-realism and confronting our own fears portrayed in small tales.
