Audrey Ewell is an award-winning writer, director and producer of narrative and documentary films. Her film career began in 2000, when she co-produced and acted in A SIGN FROM GOD, which premiered in dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival. She went on to write, direct, and produce several films in partnership with Aaron Aites, including UNTIL THE LIGHT TAKES US, a 2009 feature documentary about Norwegian Black Metal. This instant cult classic won audience and jury festival awards, screened at NY’s MoMA, was broadcast on the Sundance channel, and received wide domestic and international theatrical, DVD and digital distribution.
Ewell founded, directed, and produced 99% – THE OCCUPY WALL STREET COLLABORATIVE FILM, an unprecedented collaboration comprised of 100 filmmakers across the United States. 99% premiered in competition at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it was acquired by Participant Media. After its theatrical run, 99% was broadcast as a launch title on the Pivot Network.
Most recently, Ewell wrote, directed and produced Memory Box, a sci-fi tinged narrative short starring Mackenzie Davis (Always Shine, Blade Runner 2049) and Shane Carruth (Primer, Upstream Color). It premiered at the 2016 Fantastic Fest. Her video art installations have been featured in galleries and museums in New York, Europe, and Tokyo. She’s served as a festival juror and has been a featured speaker at industry events including History Makers International and MIT’s Open Doc Lab.
Ewell has been supported by grant and film programs including IFP, The Fledgling Fund and The Sundance Institute.
