Anna Maria was born and raised in Athens, Greece. She is a BA (Hons) Animation graduate from Middlesex University, London, UK. She is interested in analogue ways of expression, with her specialty being mix media and stop motion animated filmmaking. Through her craft, she is looking to evolve into a socially sensitive and ethical filmmaker, eventually being able to direct projects dealing with sensitive themes in a respectful manner.
12 Views of the Dome originally started as a poem collection that I began writing in the midst of the pandemic's summer in 2020. As a teen living in a small town in Greece, I would find refuge in the vast isolated fields and beaches of my current hometown. With all shops and activities frozen by the strict measures to handle the Covid-19 pandemic, there was nothing to write about except for the sky and the sea, the only elements untouched by the pandemic. The collection was left neglected after the world returned to a relative normal until I reached the summer before my final year at university and needed to pitch for a film at the beginning of the year. Throughout my travels in the summer of 2022, I discovered this need that I felt, a need to express the scope of the sky and the themes of escapism found in the 12 Views of the Dome poems. With my graduation film I wanted to expand to a bigger mode of production, using techniques and tools I haven't used before. This film truly pushed me to collaborate with artists from outside the university bubble and grasp on the role of a director. Having two composers as well proved to be quite interesting as the pieces they composed were widely different from each other. Additionally, I got to direct my voice actors in studio, a very unique and incredibly experience, as the characters that were living in my head for months were being brought to life in the matter of seconds. I hope this film opens more paths towards more challenging filmmaking opportunities, ones that could potentially deal with more sensitive themes within a social/educational manner.
