Writer Biography - Amya Olivia

I am a 20-year-old filmmaker, storyteller, and creator, born and raised in the South and I'm inviting you to engage with my cinematic oasis. Within the digital confines of my work, I am dedicated to crafting narratives that transcend the bounds of mere entertainment, delving into the profound depths of the human spirit.
I have loved the art and process of filmmaking since i was a kid. My novels drew me to wanting to become a director and delve into cinematic storytelling. As a kid, i made many short films on iMovie, which quickly graduated to larger-scale productions as i got older.
Throughout grade school, i was involved in theatre and broadcast journalism, where i was able to explore my passions. I've written three novels and four scripts to be produced as films. i am currently getting my bachelor’s in film science where I'm learning to hone my craft.

Writer Statement

For as long as I can remember I’ve been a storyteller, whether I wrote it down in one of my many notebooks or used an iPad and iMovie to put together “mini-movies”. Storytelling isn’t just hearing a story from someone or even seeing it on a screen. It’s how hearing or seeing that story makes you feel and if you’re immersed in the world you’re being introduced to. When I watch a movie or hear a story I deem it good or amazing if I feel so involved to the point where when it ends I didn’t even realize how immersed I was into the story. When the movie “changed my personality” or if I got attached to the characters and the fictional or nonfictional world itself. As a filmmaker and storyteller that’s my main goal. To have my story make an impact on who’s being introduced to it. I want them to walk out of the theatre with a new outlook on life. I want the people watching my story to simply say, “Wow” because wow maybe three letters but within it lies a million unspoken words. Filmmaking and storytelling is much more than entertainment. It’s an art that taps into parts of you that you didn’t know were there before.
