Winner: Best Drama
Alexey was born and raised in Russia, where he combined career in software engineering with learning film theory, screenwriting and directing stage plays. After moving to San Francisco Bay Area he spent a few years working on local filmmaking crews before venturing out to direct his debut short film, 106°F (2017).
Hurting one's own child by mistake is the biggest fear of any parent, myself included. When people learn about the family tragedies from the media, they are often scared enough to cry for punishment, claim parents as "monsters" and dismiss their feelings.
My goal with this short film was to break this emotional wall, and let the audience build empathy towards the people who experience this tragedy, and imagine what their life is and could be.
This is also a film about Silicon Valley, a place for obsessed people, and I wanted to show how things that capture people's minds and give them sense of fulfillment might ultimately turn out to shatter their lives.
