We believe women have incredible stories to tell!
We showcase the works of female and gender-expansive filmmakers all over the world in an effort to encourage and support filmmakers.
We encourage filmmakers who identify as a woman and gender-expansive folks who identify with womanhood to submit their films!

We accept narratives, docs, experimental, animation, and any genre – we want to see it all! Join us as we celebrate the power of female filmmakers!! This three-day festival is all about films made by women (and gender-expansive folks).

Films must be complete, no longer than thirty-nine minutes, and must be directed and/or written by a female or gender-expansive person OR 50% of the following must be female and/or gender expansive: Writer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor

Proceeds from our event go to grants for female and/or gender-expansive filmmakers. (See website for grant details uptiltfilmfest.com)

Rules & Terms

Guidelines for submission:

-Films must be completed (no works in progress).
-Must be under 39 minutes
-Must be directed or written by a woman. or gender-expansive person who identifies with womanhood OR 50% of the following positions must be women/gender-expansive folks: writer, director, editor, cinematographer
-Films and videos of any genre: narrative, documentary, animation, experimental...
-Films must be submitted via an online submission method.
- Films must have been completed in the current or previous year (2022/2023)
- We do not pay screening fees but this year we will REFUND ANY SUBMISSION FEES PAID to all filmmakers whose films are accepted into our festival (must be able to accept US funds or funds will be refunded through FilmFreeway)
- NORTH CAROLINA Filmmakers can SUBMIT FOR FREE with proof of residency! email Tricia at uptiltfilmfest@gmail.com with your proof of residency to get a waiver code.

    I really enjoyed my experience at Uptilt Film Festival! They were so welcoming and it was well organized. I like that they had filmmaker get togethers for networking opportunities and the films were great.

    A very very cool festival! UPTILT does a great job of making the filmmakers involved feel valued and respected, which is so gratifying given their goal of uplifting women in film.

    I wasn't able to attend the festival in person, but some friends did on my behalf; from what they told me, the films were presented in an interactive way that invited the audience to really engage with the work. I'm sad I missed out but definitely planning to make the trip to NC for UPTILT in the future!

    So sorry I was not able to attend the festival this year but thrilled ORDER MY STEPS was included in this women-powered festival. Communication was excellent and I can tell that the
    organization is filmmaker oriented. It is rare to be offered a compensation for screening so even the token amount offered was meaningful!

    This was an incredible festival to be a part of. As a filmmaker traveling to a new city for Uptilt, I felt welcomed and taken care of. The other films were all carefully selected, and I enjoyed everything I saw (this is such a rarity!) This is a special festival!
