IndieBoom is platform for screenplay competitions based in Brooklyn, NY and produced by the award-winning nonprofit Art of Brooklyn Film Festival (aobff.org). Founded in 2011, AoBFF was named 'Brooklyn's premier film festival" in 2025. AoBFF is proudly supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and the NYC Cultural Development Fund.

*** We NEVER use AI to read or score screenplays! ***

IndieBoom started out in 2017 as a streaming short film platform. Then we added short screenplay competitions to the mix. After a hiatus, we have relaunched in 2025 with a new look, as a script contest platform aimed at showcasing and supporting emerging writers in all genres.

>> Our statement on using AI:
A.I. SHOULD NEVER WRITE SCREENPLAYS. IT SHOULDN’T READ THEM, EITHER.
Technology, no matter how advanced, can never replace the human creative spirit. When a writer pours their heart and soul into a screenplay, they deserve consideration, respect, and constructive feedback from a real human expert… not artificial 'intellgence.'

At Indieboom and AoBFF we support independent artists every step of the way. We NEVER use A.I. in any of our Screenplay Contests or our Script Coverage Services. And we never will.

➡️ CURRENT CONTEST:

🪐 SCI-FI Short Screenplay Contest 🪐

Enter your SCI-FI short screenplays of 40 pages or less. They can be hard sci-fi, sci-fi/horror, sci-fi/fantasy, or sci-fi/comedy and must be written in English.

➡️ Contest Judge: Sean Mannion
Sean Mannion is an independent filmmaker and writer who has worked across genres and media. His mind bending sci-fi feature film MEME won best narrative feature at The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival in 2018, and Sean was invited to return to AoBFF as Guest Festival Director for 2019, curating the films for that season. In 2019 the short film he co-wrote, It’s Normal, won Best Screen Story at ZedFest.

Sean is the Founder of 4Mile Circus an award-winning Brooklyn-based production company that makes films, web content, podcasts, and he has had projects highlighted in IndieWire, Film Threat, and Forbes. Sean is currently in the latter stages of adapting one of his feature science fiction screenplays into a novel. He is the Education Director for the new Art of Brooklyn Film Festival Learning Center, and has presented at the Ax Wound Film Festival and at the Pacific Rim Conference on Literature and Rhetoric.

Wonderful festival. My script GOING UPSTAIRS, set in Brooklyn, is an Official Selection in the IndieBoom Comedy Short Contest. A tremendous opportunity for screenwriters to promote their work.
