CIFF is excited to return to the beautiful and iconic Playhouse Square - the largest performing arts district in the U.S., outside of New York City. All Festival details (including dates, format, and venues) are subject to change.

CIFF48 will consist of hundreds of films, post-film conversations and Q&As with filmmakers, balloting, and over $130,000 in cash awards. CIFF Speaks (the organization’s podcast series) will be returning with episodes surrounding and during the Festival.

CIFF is committed to offering screening fees or travel assistance for all feature and short films accepted into the Festival. In a time of many changes, we are happy to report that CIFF continues to be one of the few Academy Award®-qualifying festivals in the world for all three categories of shorts films—live action, animated, and documentary. CIFF accepts films of any runtime, any genre, and from every country.

As always, CIFF will provide written feedback from our Screening Team—a diverse volunteer committee comprised of 175 film enthusiasts assembled from our audience base, ranging from industry professionals to local film students. CIFF is also happy to once again offer submission waivers to any CIFF alum whose current film meets the CIFF48 requirements.

No matter what the future holds, the Cleveland International Film Festival remains dedicated to supporting the work of filmmakers everywhere and uniting our community through the power of film.

For all questions related to submissions, please see our Terms and Conditions or email submissions@clevelandfilm.org.

We thank you for sharing your films with us!

  • We loved every aspect of our experience with the Cleveland Int'l Film Festival. Beyond all of the amazing festival hospitality, the gorgeous screening venues and top notch and friendly staff, Cleveland provided our film an opportunity to connect with the community for social impact. CIFF Education organized special meet ups with focus groups and a screening with a local correctional facility. They amplified the themes of our film by creating a community conversation with the Marshall Project on the topics of the film. And on top of all that, we ended up winning the Reel Women Direct Award, a true honor that came with an incredible cash prize. We are so grateful to CIFF for selecting our film and remaining connected with us beyond the festival to further our audience reach. I highly recommend CIFF to all filmmakers everywhere!!! They also show how much they care about filmmakers with their awesome hospitality!!!

CIFF47 was a magical experience, probably my favorite festival experience so far - I don't really imagine any topping this. From acceptance through trying to return to normal life, the filmmakers we met and friendships we made from all over the globe that we still talk to weekly, were all a result of top-notch programming and fantastic human beings attending from Ukraine, Australia, UK, France, Spain, Israel, all over. Our film was selected as the Audience Award for Best Student Short, which ironically isn't even my favorite part of the festival. My favorite was viewing the film "20 days in Mariupol", and honest PBS documentary showing the true conditions of the War in Ukraine, from the shaky cameras of the journalists risking their life to show us the truth. The audience sat stunned in silence in their seats long past the credits.

That's the power of film - that's the power of the films that screen at Cleveland International Film Festival.

There reputation really precedes them, as everyone who heard we got in said we would have a memorable, rewarding experiences. Of course festivals are what you make it, and we chose to stay for the full duration of the festival and can't imagine having it another way. Paul Sloop, Weezy, and the entire team at CIFF appreciate film as an art form and it shows.

Every single film was good - there are events every night - I spoke on a televised panel - the lounges with complimentary food are open all-day - and the audiences are huge and engaging.

Will 100% return, even if it's not with a film.

  • Cleveland International Film Festival was an experience of a lifetime! Our short film Get Away had the honor of screening there in 2023 and won Best After Hours Short. The festival staff was amazing especially Paul Sloop and his team. Everything was so organized and buttoned up. As a filmmaker I felt like I got the red carpet treatment! I met some great industry colleagues that have now become great friends. I can’t recommend this film festival enough!

  • One Small Visit

The quality of films was astounding and the festival does an amazing job of welcoming filmmakers and creating lots of opportunities for them to mingle. Communication was warm and enthusiastic from the very first acceptance letter. Gorgeous Art Deco cinemas that screen your film. Wonderful film-loving crowds. Highly recommend.
