Women In Film Pittsburgh is hosting our 14th year of our short film festival featuring women directors and their crew and the wonderful work they create.

Our in-person event will be held at the Parkway Theater in Pittsburgh with a reception and screening featuring the finalists of the submissions we receive.

Prior to the screening, we will award scholarships to deserving young women who are enrolled in a film or television program in the Pittsburgh area.

We will also feature our online screening for the national and international submissions to view with their family and friends. Date to be announced.

Awards & Prizes


Women In Film Pittsburgh proudly presents the 2021 Short Film Festival for women directors and their crew.

The film festival will be showcased on October 6, 2021 at the Parkway Theater in Pittsburgh and will feature the finalists of the submissions received.

We will be providing the following awards:

Diversity Award - An award of $300.00 will be given to the project that features women of color in their cast and crew. Includes Pittsburgh local, national and international.

Pittsburgh Best - An award of $300.00 will be given to the project of a local Pittsburgh short film that meets all criteria. Includes Pittsburgh regional area.

Best of the Fest - An award of $300.00 will be given to the project that raises to the level of the best film submitted. Includes Pittsburgh local, national and international.

Rules & Terms

Your short film should be directed by a women with at least two other women in a primary position (producer, assistant director, etc.). Please provide their names when responding.

Your film should be no longer that 20 minutes including the credits.
You will be asked to provide a copy of your film via Vimeo or other form so the judges may view your film.

We will also need verification that you have permission to use the music in your film - please submit that or any questions you may have to info@wifmpit.org

If chosen, you will be asked to submit in a format as required by the venue.

There will be no date restrictions on when your film was completed.
All submissions must be received no later than midnight, August 10, 2021
A non-refundable fee $20.00 will be assessed

    Where to start? Hats off to the entire team at WIFMP for putting together such a fantastic lineup of films for their very first virtual screening. Our short film Dear Olivia screened online alongside 8 others with WIFMP, with a really thoughtful and inspiring message by Heidi Ward at the beginning and end of the show. We are all so grateful to have this opportunity with such a wonderful group of ladies, and what's even better, is our cast-crew were able to tune in from all over the world. We had so much fun watching the films and connecting with the other filmmakers via chat. It was such an honor to be a part of this festival. You gals rock! Thank you WIFMP!

    I really loved this festival! This year, it was online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. WIFM made sure that we were still able to celebrate our work with family, friends, and fans all over the world.
