Searching for Halifax NP711

Seven crew members of the Royal Canadian Air Force were killed in a bombing raid over Germany on Feb. 21, 1945. The cause of the crash was a mystery. Their Halifax bomber was discovered 73 years later. We examine the crew's final hours, its flight path, the conclusions on why it crashed and the search for the wreckage.

Director Biography - Rob Leicester Wagner

Rob Leicester Wagner is a journalist/filmmaker and author of nearly two dozen books. He is the great-grandson of silent film director Rob Wagner. During more than 40 years as a journalist Wagner's reporting ranged from legal affairs coverage in California to Middle East issues. He reported on the Middle East for 12 years from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Among his books are "Red Ink White Lies: The Rise and Fall of Los Angeles Newspapers, 1920-1962," "Sleeping Giant," "Witness to a Century" and "Hollywood Bohemia: The Roots of Progressive Politics in Rob Wagner's Script." His documentary, "Searching for Halifax NP711," is his first film. Wagner is the founder of Flying Goose Productions, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with offices in Southern California.

"Searching for Halifax NP711" not only honors the dead of World War II, but also reminds us of the sacrifices allied air forces made in the name of democracy. Now, nearly 80 years later, democracy in many nations is in peril. Today's political climate threatens to render meaningless the deaths of the men and women who fought to preserve democracy.
